UTAH – UNLV, A STATISTICAL COMPARISON

This is a game where something has to give. Both the Utes and Rebels are making their opponents turn the ball over at an extremely high rate. The team that wins the turnover battle will likely win this game.

UNLV has a lot of team speed and can create the big play on both offense and defense. Utah must be more consistent on offense this week and protect the football.

First for the Utes:

Rushing - 166.83 yards per game, 3.59 yards per carry, which is 45th in the country.

Passing - 216.2 yards per game, 7.41 yards per attempt, which is 57th in the country.

Total Offense - 383 yards per game, 5.06 yards per play, which is 57th in the country.

Scoring Offense - 28.17 points per game, 22 total touchdowns, which is 52nd in the country.

Run Defense - 108.3 yards per game, 3.33 yards per carry, which is 26th in the country.

Pass Defense - 236.33 yards per game, 7.35 yards per attempt, which is 84th in the country.

Total Defense - 344.67 yards per game, 5.33 yards per play, which is 48th in the country.

Scoring Defense - 18.7 points per game, 13 total touchdowns, which is 30th in the country.

Now for the Rebels:

Rushing - 149.67 yards per game, 3.68 yards per carry, which is 86th in the country.

Passing - 182.8 yards per game, 5.71 yards per attempt, which is 88th in the country.

Total Offense - 332.5 yards per game, 4.58 yards per play, which is 89th in the country.

Scoring Offense - 21.83 points per game, 15 total touchdowns, which is 86th in the country.

Rushing Defense - 138.2 yards per game, 3.68 yards per carry, which is 52nd in the country.

Passing Defense - 210 yards per game, 6.24 yards per attempt, which is 54th in the country.

Total Defense - 348.17 yards per game, 4.89 yards per play, which is 51st in the country.

Scoring Defense - 21.7 points per game, 15 total touchdowns, which is 46th in the country.

Even with all of the stats mentioned above one stands out for both teams: turnover margin. The Utes are plus seven on the year with an amazing 12 fumble recoveries (second in the nation), while the Rebels are plus five in turnover margin.

This is the type of game that a young quarterback like Alex Smith can get caught up in the heat of the moment and have some problems. The Rebels have a lot of speed and have picked off nine passes so far this season. Smith must limit his mistakes or the Rebels will take advantage.

With that in mind this figures to be a big-play game for and against each team.
