Utes lose another nail biter

It was another hard luck loss for the Utah basketball team. The Utes traveled across the country but fell by a single point, 85-84, in overtime to Rhode Island.

A back and forth contest came to an end when Jimmy Baron sank two free throws with just 19 seconds to play to give the Rams their final lead of the game.

The Utes had two final shots at getting the win but Luke Nevill had his shot blocked. Johnnie Bryant came up with the loose ball but missed an open three at the buzzer.

Nevill led all scorers with 25 points. He added 16 rebounds.

Baron led the Rams with 21 points, netting eight in the extra period. He hit a pair of three pointers in overtime, the second giving URI an 82-79 lead. The second three came just 15 seconds after a Shaun Green three knotted things up at 79.

Green sent the game to overtime when he nailed a three at the end of regulation that tied the game at 72. He finished with 18 points, as did Bryant.

The Green three brought the Utes all the way back, after trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half.

The loss is the second one-point loss for the Utes and their fourth loss by three points or less.
