Utes fall in two overtimes

The Utah basketball team continues its run of hard luck. The Utes fell to UNLV 97-94 in double overtime to open Mountain West Conference play.

Shaun Green missed a three-pointer at the buzzer that would have sent the game into triple overtime.

Wendell White broke a 94-94 tie with a steal and lay-in, driving the length of the court to get the score. Kevin Kruger added a free throw to finish the scoring.

Kruger scored 25 points to lead the Rebels to their 10th straight win.

Regulation ended with a bit of chaos. Stephen Weigh was fouled when he attempted a desperation three pointer at the buzzer. An usher was hit with an object from the stands and the game was delayed by nearly five minutes.

Weight proceeded to hit two of three foul shots to send the game to overtime.

It looked as if the Rebels would be able to win the game in the first overtime when they went up 87-79, but the Utes rattled off a 9-0 run to send the game to an additional five minutes of extra time.

Five Ute players scored in double figures, led by Green's 25. He added 15 rebounds.

Johnnie Bryant chipped in 23.

White score 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out seven assists. Kruger had a game-high eight assists.
