Name: Liam O'Hagen
Size: 6'2 205
School: Breck High School (Minneapolis, MN)
Early Word on Liam (Lee-m):
Quarterbacks will often only stick to that position in hopes of being tutored eventually into a division one player. The exact opposite holds true for Liam O'Hagen, whom initially made his mark on the defensive side of the ball.
"Even when Dominique Byrd (USC) was here, Liam was named the Conference Defensive Player of the Year," said Coach Thiel. "He runs well for his size. I would not call him a burner, but like I said, he runs well. He plays quarterback and safety here, and could eventually end up a linebacker already being 6'2 205."
Make no mistake, though, quarterback is where Liam has left his biggest impression.
"He's such a competitor," added Coach Thiel. "In my twenty five years of coaching in college and high school; he is the finest competitor I've ever met. He does not sell-out, and there is no going back for him."
That competitiveness tops a long list of qualities in Liam's game. It is also why Coach Thiel strongly believes Liam should be on any school's quarterback wish list.
"He is a very intelligent kid, and has such a good sense of the field. We run 25 step back formations, and 18 running formations. We have a college offense here, and Liam has it nailed down perfectly. He knows his pre and post game reads, and knows how to read progressions in man-to-man defenses. He has an incredible arm, including been timed over 90 MPH in throwing a baseball."
Lastly, Coach Thiel gives his sentiments into what makes Liam successful as a quarterback.
"Schools should recruit him as a quarterback; he is just such a winner. He wants the pressure and game winning situations where he has to make a play. He is willing to sacrifice his body, deliver a zipping pass, or do whatever it takes to lead his team to victory."
That intelligence is shown off the field as well as Liam carries a 3.5 GPA in an academic system that will compete with any of the top high school's in the nation.
