Scouting Report: Alabama-Huntsville

It's that time to year. Time for basketball! The Vanderbilt Commodores host the University of Alabama-Huntsville in an exhibition game tonight at Memorial Gym (7 p.m. CT/ No TV). Look inside for a scouting report on the UAH Chargers.

TEAM OVERVIEW

The University of Alabama- Huntsville (UAH) Chargers are a Division II team that competes in the Gulf South Conference (GSC). The Chargers play their home games in 2,000 seat Spragins Hall. UAH, which finished 23-7 last season, returns 4-of-5 starters and was recently picked to win the GSC. The Chargers had two players picked to the preseason all-conference team. UAH was ranked No. 20 in the recent Division II top 25 poll. The Chargers run a three guard offense and averaged 73 points per game last season. The Chargers like to shoot the three. Last season they took an average of 22 3-point attempts a game, making an average 8 of those.

Lennie Acuff is in his 13th season as the men's basketball coach at UAH. He has a record of 202-134 at UAH and his overall career record is 319-246 in 19 seasons of coaching

Josh Magette G Jr. (6-1, 160)- Magette finished his sophomore season as the team''s leading rebounder with 163. Magette, who averaged 10 points per game last season, was selected to the postseason all-league team. He also led the team in steals last season with 52 and assists (200).

Zane Campbell F So. (6-8, 245)- Campbell is the team's leading returning scorer (11.6 ppg) and led the team in blocks (32) and fouls (96).

Jamie Smith G So. (6-2, 180)- Smith (11.5 ppg) led the league in free throw percentage as a freshman and earned a spot on the GSC All-Tournament Team.

Tyler Hanback G Sr. (6-4, 200)- Hanback (photo at right) started all 30 games a year ago and averaged 8.5 points per game.

Josh Yost G Jr. (6-1, 160)- The team's best 3-point shooter last season, Yost made 58 percent of his attempts but only had 24 attempts. Averaged 7.5 points per game last season.
