VU depth shows, frosh impress in 73-52 win

For all the talk about height in the pre-season, Head Coach Melanie Balcomb fronted a starting five without excess inches. From 5-4 to 6-1, true freshmen Christina Foggie and Jasmine Lister got the nod for their first collegiate start, joining seniors Jence Rhoads, Hannah Tuomi and sophomore post Tiffany Clarke.

While Jence handled the point as expected, she saw plenty of help from Jasmine and Christina, and the latter led all scorers with 14 points, 4 steals and 2 three-pointers. Jence followed with 13 points and Hannah with 12. Jasmine, with 5 points, had the evening's only other three in one attempt. Senior Rebecca Silinski, 6-3, pulled down six rebounds to lead the category for the 'Dores.

The coaches promised everybody playing time, and the combinations picked up steam in the second half to pour in 46 points after just 36.4% shooting in the first 20 minutes. Delta State, ranked No. 2 in Division II, trailed Vanderbilt by a 10-point margin during much of the first half.
