John Windham named to Bruce Fowler's staff

John Windham, a Gallatin, Tenn., native and former Vanderbilt standout, has been named Furman's defensive coordinator/linebackers coach by new Paladin head coach Bruce Fowler.

Windham, who lettered at Vanderbilt from 1982-85, was the Commodores sack leader during the 1985 season with seven. He also led the team in tackles for losses that year with 10. Windham saw significant action all four years at Vanderbilt and played in the 1982 Hall of Fame Bowl as a freshman.

Before being added to the Furman staff, Windham was the defensive coordinator at Gardner-Webb for four years. He was the head coach at Sewanee for 11 years and was named the 2005 SCAC Coach of the Year.

Windham also had coaching stints at Livingston (Ala.) and Colorado College. He was a graduate assistant at Mississippi State during the 1988 and 1989 seasons.

Fowler has also named former Vanderbilt graduate assistant Mark Moehring as a defensive assistant.

Fowler previously coached at Vanderbilt and was most recently the assistant head coach and linebackers coach under Robbie Caldwell. He was named head coach at Furman in December.
