Music city visit on the horizon?

A couple of weeks ago, South Lenoir (Deep Run, NC) junior standout K'hadree Hooker collected his tenth offer from Vanderbilt. The Commodores joined the likes of Auburn, Duke, ECU, Georgia Tech, Louisville, NC State, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia Tech in offering the 6'2", 280 pound defensive tackle.

"Vanderbilt offered a couple of weeks ago," said Hooker. "I talked to the coaches over there and they told me that they liked me and that I was one of their priorities. They offered me and I really didn't expect it since I really haven't received any mail from them, so it shocked me."

With a couple of former Maryland coaches currently on the Vanderbilt staff, there seems to be a more of a focus on North Carolina prospects compared to past years. One of the many advantages that Vanderbilt has over a number of schools that typically recruit that fertile recruiting area is that they play in the SEC and can offer a high quality education at the same time. Many recruits like Hooker have also noticed the chance to come in and have the opportunity to make an instant impact.

"At Vanderbilt I have a chance to play early, and I also like the academics and the coaching stability," he said. "They have a good academic program and to get a degree from Vanderbilt, that means something."

Many top recruits plan on taking visits this summer to see all of the schools that have offered, and Hooker is no exception. He's currently already visited places like Auburn, Clemson, ECU, Florida, Georgia Tech, NC State, North Carolina, and South Carolina. With more offers likely coming during this spring eval period, it's a safe assumption that his travel schedule will get even more hectic this summer. While Hooker already has ten offers, he's not even close to narrowing down a top list right now. Many feel that he is a lock to NC State because he has family in Raleigh, and he has visited State a number of times. Hooker says that is not the case and he plans on giving Vanderbilt a good long look.

"I don't have a list of top schools right now," he said. "I plan on going to Virginia Tech spring game and I am going to try to get to South Carolina and Clemson in the same weekend, and Vanderbilt and Tennessee in the same weekend too. I'll make my decision whenever I feel like it's time for me to make the decision and I feel comfortable with it." Top Stories
