Summer decision for Parnell?

Vanderbilt was the third school to offer arguably the top cornerback in the state of South Carolina. Devontre Parnell is a star 2012 prospect from Fairfield Central HS (Winnsboro, SC) and he shares his thoughts about the Commodores with

"The Vanderbilt offer came around late March," Parnell said. "They were like my third offer. Ronald Geohaghan and I are really close and he actually told me that they offered me. I called a coach up and that's how I found out about it."

Last season the 5-10, 175 pound corner recorded 42 tackles, 15 pass breakups, an interception for a touchdown, and he also returned two punts and two kickoff returns for a touchdown. His play on the gridiron has yielded offers from ECU, Illinois, Louisville, Kentucky, N.C. State, Toledo, Vanderbilt, and Wake Forest. Despite all of those offers, Parnell isn't ready to name a favorite.

"Right now I don't have any favorites," he said. "I have a top five and it is Louisville, Kentucky, LSU, Miami (FL), and Alabama."

Before Parnell makes his decision, he has a few things that he is looking for in each school.

"I'm looking for a good education, and a good coaching staff," said Parnell. "The coaching staff is a big part for me because I want to get along with the coaches and be at a place where they produce good players."

While Vanderbilt is not currently in his top five, Parnell admits that it isn't a firm top list of his favorite schools. Other schools like Vanderbilt have a chance to move into his top list and Vanderbilt has at least one thing going for them.

"I like that Vanderbilt is not too far from home," he said. "My grandmother actually lives in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Hopefully I can try to go up and visit and check the campus out. I don't have any favorites and my top five really doesn't matter. It's just the schools that I like right now and it all depends on my visits and how I like the schools."

With a busy summer in the not so distant future, Parnell plans on shutting it down soon so he can focus on wrapping up his high school football career.

"I want to get it over with late this summer like late August," said Parnell. "It all depends on how recruiting is going. If I feel like it needs to keep going, then I will keep it going. I would like to get it over with before my senior season so I can focus on the season. I plan on taking visits this summer to LSU, Alabama, Miami, Oregon, and definitely Clemson, and South Carolina. I want to get a good look at all of the schools so I am going to sit down with my coaches and try to go to some one day camps too. " Top Stories
