Jones talks Vandy offer

One of the most talented cornerbacks in the South Carolina recently received a Vanderbilt offer. MarQuise Jones is 6-1, 185 pounds and from Eau Claire HS/Columbia, S.C. Vanderbilt joined the likes of Army, Duke, Furman, Marshall, S.C. State, and Toledo. Jones talks with to discuss the offer and share on when he plan on making a decision.

"Vanderbilt offered over a month ago," said Jones. "I don't have a list of top schools yet but it will come to me. I'm going to wait until the official day to make an announcement."

Jones understands the advantages that a school like Vanderbilt offers and he is still in the process of forming a relationship with the Vanderbilt coach that is recruiting him.

"I like the academics at Vanderbilt and that they play in the SEC," he said. "I like Coach Bankins; I'm still getting to know him."

Last season, Jones accumulated 42 tackles, 6 interceptions (1 for a touchdown), 2 forced fumbles, and 2 fumble recoveries. He also played wide receiver for the Shamrocks and recorded 38 receptions for 486 yards and six touchdowns. All of the schools are looking at Jones at cornerback but what is he looking for in each school?

"I'm looking for a school with good academics, a good football program, and a family atmosphere," he said.

Currently one school is recruiting Jones the hardest. It shouldn't come as a surprise as they were the first to offer the talented cornerback.

"Duke is recruiting me the hardest," Jones said. "They send me lots of letters and I've been calling Coach (Derek) Jones a lot. We have a good relationship."

This summer is sure to be a busy one for Jones. He and his Eau Claire teammates plan on visiting a number of schools. Jones wants to check out the schools that have showed serious interest as well as a few local ones. In fact, one local school might be the next to issue him an offer.

"I have visited to Georgia Tech, and I plan on visiting all of the schools that have offered me this summer," he said. "I also plan on going to North Carolina and North Carolina State. I would like to get offers from both of the in-state schools (Clemson, and South Carolina). I spoke with NC State recently and they might be the next to offer." Top Stories
