Ward, a 6-foot-2, 230-pounder, played in high school at one of the South's top football programs, Evangel Catholic in Shreveport, La. Ward played at Colorado as a true freshman, and had finished spring drills at the top of the Buffaloes' depth chart at the inside linebacker position.
According to the Post, Ward has already visited TCU as a possible destination, and also has interest in LSU, Ole Miss and SMU. Under NCAA rules, Ward would have to sit out a year after transferring to a different school, but would then have three years of eligibility left.
Vanderbilt lost Hunter Hillenmeyer, its top middle linebacker from 2002 and team leader in tackles, to graduation. Sophomore Otis Washington and junior Pat Brunner are expected to compete for the open position in the fall.
