Coach Spotlight: Adam Butler
"I just spoke with Adam about 30 minutes ago," Dicus said. "He said he committed to Vanderbilt. He'll fit right in (at Vanderbilt) with their philosophy of high moral, high character athletes. I think that he'll be a tremendous college offensive tackle."
Dicus said Butler has been "awesome" as a senior at Duncanville, located in the best Southwest area of the Dallas metroplex. Dicus feels there's room to grow for Butler, a 6-foot-5, 285-pound left tackle, both in his his body and on the field.
"He's a converted defensive lineman," Dicus said. "We moved him over to offensive line a couple of years ago, so he's still relatively new to the position. He holds his weight well, and I could see him adding 30 to 40 more pounds without losing any of his agility. Right now he's a big man, but I probably won't recognize him after a year at Vanderbilt."
In his first year playing the position of offensive tackle, Butler made first team All-District (Texas 5A Region 1- District 5) and helped the Panthers to a 7-3 regular season and 2nd round playoff berth.
"Adam's a great worker," Dicus said. "This is all a credit to the hard work he's done. He loves the weight room. On the field he's very flexible both in his ankles and knees. He has excellent arm length which he uses well. He also plays the game very aggressive using his great feet to run up the field to follow the play. We all think he has tremendous upside and look for him to become a great offensive lineman in the SEC."
Dicus calls Butler a "yes sir, nor sir" type of kid with "high character and academics." Butler becomes the second Panther to make a Division 1 commitment. His teammate, Jeffrey Thomas, committed to Colorado in June. Dicus has his team at 5-2. They take on conference rival, Mansfield Timberview, this coming weekend.
