Hephzibah, Ga.'s Fred Roland is a huge offensive tackle prospect that has all of the makings of a great one on the next level. He has a formidable wing span at 6-8 and 305 pounds, and he has good quickness and strength for his size.
Roland's best forty time to date is 5.3. His strength numbers of 285 on the bench and 455 on the squat are impressive for two reasons. First, he is extremely tall and has to move the weight a long way; and second, he battled a sore back late last year. He is healthy now, and his 265-pound power clean helps show the leverage he can generate.
Roland is a good student that has drawn interest from around the country, and he has picked up several offers.
"Colorado, Vanderbilt, and Duke have offered me scholarships so far," said Roland. "I'm going to the Georgia Tech camp for sure this summer. Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt are probably my two favorite teams. I like to play defense a little bit better, but I understand why everyone is recruiting me to play offensive tackle."
He's being recruited to play offensive tackle, because he has the physical tools to be a standout on the next level at the position. He is an excellent student that will have no trouble qualifying as well.
