Larry Smith has ridden a five year roller coaster at Vanderbilt. He saw the upside as a redshirt freshman when he quarterbacked the Commodores to an upset win over Boston College in the Music City Bowl. Then he persevered through two horrible 2-10 seasons as the team worked to build its offensive line and receiving corps. This season Smith directed the 'Dores to three wins but then dutifully stepped aside with class as Jordan Rodgers assumed the role of starting signal caller. Producing over 3,500 yards of total offense during his career, Smith can hold his head high and be proud that he helped his team develop a new winning attitude. Since assuming the second team role Smith has been a consummate team player by supporting Rodgers as well as all his teammates. Not to be totally forgotten on the football field, Smith made a statement in the Wake Forest blowout when he lofted a 45-yard pass to Jordan Matthews for a touchdown.

2008 Music City Bowl. Smith completes 10 of 17 passes for 121 yards and rushes 10 times for 25 yards in leading Vandy to a 16-14 victory over Boston College. On the Commodores winning field goal drive Smith ran for 13 yards and completed a 15-yard pass to George Smith to put his team in position for the winning Bryant Hahnfeldt field goal.

"Yes, definitely. Only 11 men can play at a time so I understand that. Like I said, team first. I'm probably the biggest cheerleader on the sidelines. I'm really excited and just eager for the team to go out there Saturday and play well to end this regular season on a winning note." Smith, prior to 2011 Wake Forest game.
