The Chicago White Sox selected Vanderbilt signee Greg Moviel of Cleveland, Ohio in the 15th round of Tuesday's Major League Baseball draft. Moviel, a 6-foot-6 lefthanded pitcher who led St. Ignatius High School to the state championship game last weekend, was selected with the No. 442 pick overall.
Moviel, who inked scholarship papers with Vanderbilt in November, must now weigh the merits of a Vanderbilt education vs. the chance to sign a major league contract. Moviel told the Toledo Blade last week that he would likely sign a pro contract if taken in the first two rounds, but did not speculate on what he might do if taken in the later rounds.
Two current Vanderbilt players who are draft-eligible, Cesar Nicolas and Robert Ransom, were passed over in the draft's first 20 rounds, as were the rest of Vanderbilt's high school signees from last fall. Rounds 21 through 50 of the draft are expected to be completed on Wednesday.
