David Williams Releases Statement

Vanderbilt vice chancellor and Commodore athletics head David Williams released a statement today regarding a complaint from the Atlantic Coast Conference. The complaint was likely filed by Maryland regarding alleged "tampering" by Vanderbilt coaches with Terrapin quarterback Danny O'Brien who recently announced he would be transferring from Maryland.

Williams's statement did not give specific details of the believed Maryland complaint. It mentioned no VU staff members by name, only saying the complaint involved "Vanderbilt football".

"We have been informed by the Southeastern Conference that the Atlantic Coast Conference has filed a formal complaint involving Vanderbilt University football on behalf of one of its members. We are complying with SEC and Vanderbilt procedures and are conducting an investigation on the matter."

The Baltimore Sun reported today that Maryland had filed a complaint against Vanderbilt. The Sun also reported that head coach Randy Edsall had suddenly lifted all restrictions regarding what schools O'Brien, offensive lineman Max Garcia, and linebacker Mario Rowson could transfer.
