Nashville, Tenn. – Oregon rallied for single runs in four straight innings to erase an early Vanderbilt lead to win 4-2 Friday night at Hawkins Field.
The Commodores scored twice in the in the third inning on four hits to claim the lead. Anthony Gomez
's RBI-single put Vandy on top and Gomez later scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0. The Ducks, however, scored one run in the next four innings and used solid pitching down the stretch to earn the win. A Gomez throwing error in the fourth frame led to the Ducks' first run and Kevin Ziomek
's error led to Oregon
's second run and a tie game after five innings. Oregon tacked on a run in the sixth on a pinch hit RBI-single from Brett Thomas and put the game away with a two-out RBI-double from Aaron Jones, who led the Ducks with two RBI. Anthony Gomez extended his hitting streak to all five games of the 2012 season with his RBI-single in the second. Spencer Navin
picked up a pair of walks and a single for the Commodores.
Oregon starter Alex Keudell earned the win with seven gutsy innings, allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts and two walks. Jimmie Sherfy worked two perfect innings to earn his first save of the season. Brian Miller
took the loss in relief for Vanderbilt
giving up two runs on two hits over 2.1 innings. VU starter Kevin Ziomek allowed two unearned runs on two hits with six strikeouts in his 4.2 innings.
The Commodores' three errors on the night ran the team's early season total to 14 in five games.
