Vanderbilt (10-15, 2-4) welcomes tenth ranked South Carolina (18-7, 1-5) in a matchup to regain footing in conference play. The Gamecocks were swept in their opening SEC series against a surprising Kentucky (25-1, 5-1) squad. Last weekend against the Gators, South Carolina won the opener 9-3 in what was a dominating game for the Gamecock bullpen. Florida would split the next two games, pulling away from a 3-3 tie in the 9th on Sunday to beat South Carolina 5-4.

At The Citadel Tuesday the Cocks were led by freshman Jordan Montgomery (3.60) who threw 5.2 innings and retired 17 of the 20 batters he faced. Shortstop Joey Pankake was 2-for-3 with two RBI's and a run. The freshman has been outstanding this year hitting .354 with a home run, two doubles and eight RBI's while enduring growing pains with eight errors. Freshman left fielder Tanner English has also started his career in impressive fashion hitting .309 with six RBI's, three doubles and a triple.

Junior center fielder Evan Marzilli has been another solid performer for the Gamecocks starting in all 25 games with a team high seven doubles, 12 RBI's and a home run.

Erik Payne has also come through for South Carolina batting .308 with two home runs, doubles and triples. The sophomore designated hitter/second baseman

Third baseman LB Dantzle (.226) is one of the three Gamecocks to start in all 25 games this year. The junior's four home runs lead the team, while hitting .226 with 16 RBI's and three doubles.

First baseman Christian Walker has also shown consistency hitting .311 with three home runs, six doubles and a team high 23 RBI's. The junior is on the Golden Spikes Award Watch list.

South Carolina fields another freshman behind home plate in Grayson Greine who is .227 with 12 RBI's. The catcher hit two home runs and four RBI's in the Gamecocks 6-5 loss against Clemson.

South Carolina's right fielder Adam Matthews has batted .222 with seven RBI's and two home runs. The senior captain hit a three-run homer in their 9-6 win against Clemson.

The 'Dores with face Michael Roth (2-0, 1.28) who has thrown a conference high 42.1 innings with 41 strikeouts and 10 walks. The lefty also ranks third best in SEC pitchers for ERA.

Junior right hander Matt Price 31.1 innings pitched, good for second most on the team. The captain has 37 strike outs in seven appearances and 14 walks.

Right hander Colby Holmes (3-0, 2.67) will get the Sunday start against Vandy. The junior has 27 strikeouts to nine walks through 27 innings.

The Gamecocks top saves earner is freshman righty Evan Beal (1-2, 3.68) with four. Bear has appeared in 10 games with 23 strikeouts through 14.2 innings.

Forrest Koumas was a member of the SEC All-Freshman Team in 2011 with a 6-1 record and 2.96 ERA. This year the sophomore righty is 1-2 with a 5.93 ERA and 18 strikes through 13.2 innings.

The Gamecocks are 14-3 when facing right-handed starters and 4-4 against left-handers and are 0-3 when trailing after the 7th inning.
