The junior is holding opponents to an average of just .197 and has given up just nine extra base hits. Stratton won SEC pitcher of the week for his 17 strikeout performance against LSU.
On Saturday freshman Tyler Beede will face off with right-handed junior Kendall Graveman (2-1, 3.05). The junior has 20 strikeouts and has only given up four extra base hits in 41.1 innings pitched.
On Sunday the 'Dores may get a mix of right handers Evan Mitchell (1-0, 3.98 ERA) and Will Cox (2-1, 4.74 ERA) and lefty Nick Routt (1-4, 4.72 ERA). The junior Routt has pitched the most of the three with 28 strikeouts through 26.2 innings while Mitchell and Cox hold opponents' batting averages to significantly less than Routt.
Right hander Caleb Reed (0-4, 2.49) leads the team with six saves but has not always been able to help hold on to wins so far this season. The senior has given up a team high seven doubles while holding opponents to a .207 average.
Freshman Wes Rea (.294) has also started all 29 games for the Bulldogs after redshirting the entire 2011 season with an injured shoulder. The first baseman's 20 RBI's top the team while his ten doubles are good for second on the team. Starting at the other corner is junior Sam Frost, the third baseman has hit .310 in his 21 appearances with only nine starts. Frost has split time at second and third base this year.
Outfielder Hunter Renfroe has gotten playing time in each three positions this year and had a two-home run game against Arkansas that helped the bulldogs beat No. 3 Arkansas 8-2. The sophomore's 29 hits rank second on the team as well as 14 RBI's, eight doubles.
Sophomore Taylor Stark and freshman Brandon Woodruff have both gotten a taste of left field. Stark has seen more action with twice as many at bats as Woodruff in his 12 appearances. Stark is hitting .278 with just two RBI's and seven runs.
Redshirt freshman Demarcus Henderson won SEC freshmen of the week honors for his effort in week four against Penn State and Mercer. After starting the season with a whopping .414 the right fielder has fallen into a bit of a slump, now hitting .266 with 6 RBI's on the year.
Designated hitter Trey Porter leads the team with four home runs and 18 RBI's. The junior is hitting .311 and has 25 starts for the Bulldogs. Sophomore shortstop Adam Frazier has started all 29 games and leads the Bulldogs with 41 hits, 11 doubles and 13 RBI's.
Catcher Mitch Slauter has allowed six passed balls and 21 stolen bases against in SEC play. The junior is batting .272 with a home run and 11 RBI's.
Second baseman Matthew Britton has five sacrifice bunts this year but is tied for second-most errors in SEC play with 10. The freshman is hitting just .129 with two RBI's in 62 at bats.
Vanderbilt will have its work cut out on Friday against Stratton but the Bulldogs have been known to give up quite a few extra base hits so far this season. If the fielding and pitching continue to improve this Commodore team can definitely take the series away from home this weekend.Follow @VandyManiacom
