Adrian Baker talks Vanderbilt
"While I was at the Florida spring game I saw a message from Vanderbilt on Facebook to contact them," said Adrian Baker. "They laid out what they thought of me at defensive back. Coach Barlow told me they liked my speed, height, and cover skills. He called me a playmaker.
"I know a little bit about the program. They had a pretty good cornerback I liked to watch play last season. They offer a top-notch education and a chance to play early. The coach told me they were a little thin in the secondary, so I'd have an good opportunity to get in right away."
Baker, 6-foot-1, 165-pounds, was named All-Broward County by the Sun Sentinel. It was his first year on varsity for the Chaminade-Madonna Lions.
"I had four interceptions and ran three back for touchdowns," said Baker. "I think I made 25 tackles. In college I think I'm going to be a cornerback and a kick return man. This year we had another player handling returns the first three games. I got a chance and finished the rest of the season on punt returns. I had one for a touchdown. It was a pretty good season even though we lost in the first round to American Heritage-Delray Beach."
Although Bakers says he's up to 15 FBS and FCS offers, he says he's not quite ready to make a decision yet since there are teams out there still expressing strong interest in him.
"Alabama and LSU are supposed to stop by and see me during spring practice," said Baker. "I just received an offer from Nebraska today. I'm planning on being at Vanderbilt's camp this summer and some others after I gauge their interest in me.
"At the end of spring I'll have a better idea of which teams will offer me. Then I'll start looking at the education, which is most important to me, the environment, and the football team as far as depth chart, coaches, and players. I'll likely commit sometime over the summer."
Baker was named a "Top Performer" at Miami's Nike Training Camp last week. He just has two goals as a senior, "to win state" and "make as many plays as possible." He wears No. 9 at Chaminade-Madonna Prep. Follow @VandyManiacom
