The left-hander averages 10.8 strikeouts per game and holds batters to a measly .180 batting average. The Wolfpack pitchers are sixth best in the country averaging 8.6 strikeouts per game and will likely save Rodon for the Saturday matchup against the winner of the UNC Wilmington-Vanderbilt game.
Chris Diaz is tied with North Carolina's Jacob Stallings for first in the conference with 23 doubles. The shortstop has an ACC third-best batting average (.364), two triples, one home run, 50 RBIs, and 15 walks.
Trea Turner's .450 on base percentage and 64 runs scored lead the Wolfpack. The third baseman is the biggest thief in the country stealing 55 bases in 59 attempts. Turner is also tied for a team high 39 walks, with 39 RBIs and four homers.
Ryan Mathews is the top slugger on the team with a .628 slugging percentage. The designated hitter has 15 doubles, 14 home runs and a team high 54 RBIs.
Catcher Danny Canela is batting .335 for third on the team with 17 doubles, six home runs, 42 RBIs.
No. 3 University of North Carolina Wilmington (38-21, 24-6)
UNC Wilmington won the Colonial Athletic Association regular-season and tournament championship. The Seahawks came back from a 6-0 deficit to beat Delaware 10-8 in the CAA championship game. UNCW, like Vanderbilt, also had a slow start to the season going 3-9 in its first 12 games.
The Seahawks were swept at Ole Miss at the start of the year and lost to N.C. State twice (10-0, 3-8) earlier in the season. UNC-Wilmington has one of the most explosive offenses in the country with 48 home runs and 102 stolen bases.
Andrew Cain has a team high 56 runs scored and is second on the team with 10 home runs. The center fielder is 22 of 25 in stolen base attempts.
Third baseman and leadoff man Matt Campbell is batting .298 with 19 steals in 21 attempts.
Left fielder Thomas Pope leads the team with 18 doubles, 43 RBIs, three triples, four homers and a .381 batting average. Right fielder and junior-college transfer Tyler Molinaro is tied for first in the CAA with 15 home runs, 16 doubles and 44 RBIs.
Mat Batts leads the team with a 2.59 ERA and is in a three way tie for first in the conference with 90 strikeouts in 97.1 innings.
No. 4 Sacred Heart (25-30, 19-13)
One of two programs with a losing record in the NCAA tournament, this team qualified by winning the Northeast Conference tournament after starting the season 1-8. Sacred Heart, like Vandy, finished on a hot streak, winning three its last four series.
The Pioneers are led by shortstop John Murphy who is batting .347 with 11 doubles, 38 runs, and is 24-29 in stolen base attempts. Designated hitter Dan Perez is first on the team in doubles (14) and RBIs (36). Center fielder Keaton Flint is second on the team in stolen base attempts (18-22) behind Murphy and batting .271 with 11 doubles and 14 RBIs.
