Commitment Spotlight: Chad Kanoff
"I was on the phone with Coach Franklin and let him know I was ready to commit," said Chad Kanoff. "Afterward I spoke to Coach Donovan and Coach Rahne. They were all very excited to get the news."
Kanoff was at Vanderbilt in March for a Junior Day visit with his family. It was then when he began thinking he had found the right place for the next four years.
"I loved the atmosphere," Kanoff stated. "The city of Nashville is cool. There's a lot going on. The weather there is awesome. I also liked the size of the school. It's about 6,000 students which is nice.
"When I was being recruited [by Vanderbilt] the coaches said they liked my size and how I could turn negatives into positives. I've talked a lot with Coach Donovan and Coach Rahne about what they do [offensively]. I love it. I consider myself in-between pro-style and duel-threat at quarterback and think I'll fit in the system well."
In his 10 regular season games for the Harvard-Westlake Wolverines, Kanoff threw for 2,650 yards at a 58-percent completion rate with 28 touchdowns to only five interceptions. His biggest game came against El Camino Real where he threw for 372 yards and four touchdowns in the 39-31 victory.
"I thought I did a better job with my decision-making than I did my sophomore year," said Kanoff. "I was careful with the football and got better moving around in the pocket. I feel like I'm getting faster and stronger.
"I usually play basketball, but I didn't this year to lift and get ready for my senior year. We're going to be solid. Our goal is to make the playoffs and win as many as we can."
Kanoff says he plans on returning to Vanderbilt for camp this summer and back for an official visit in the fall. He lists two other offers from San Diego State and Yale.
Kanoff said his parents should have no trouble attending his games in Nashville. They often make visits to Amherst College in Massachusetts to see his older sister, Katherine, play volleyball.
Kanoff wears No. 11 for the Wolverines that compete in California's Mission League. Follow @VandyManiacom
