Vanderbilt offers defensive back
"I was excited," said Shaun Rupert. "It was my first SEC offer. Coach Barlow let me know two weeks ago. He said he really liked what he saw from my film. He was saying he liked my ball skills and aggressiveness. The offer was at safety. I know a little bit, [about Vanderbilt] but I'm going up in July to learn more."
Rupert offers list is very diverse. He reports offers from Penn State, Wake Forest, South Florida, UCF, UAB, Arkansas State, Northern Illinois, South Alabama, Harvard, Wofford, Alabama State, and Vanderbilt.
"I'm open right now, but I'd like to settle on a decision before the season," he said. "Location is a big factor for me. I'd like to stay somewhere in the Southeast."
Rupert was a big part of the Wolverine secondary's success last season with 51 tackles, one sack, one interception, four pass breakups, and a fumble recovery he returned for a touchdown in a showdown with city rival, Sidney Lanier.
"Last year at strong safety, I made a lot of improvement on my tackling," Rupert said. "I added some weight before the season, but also improved my speed. Next year I'm not too concerned with stats. I just want to go out there and help my team win a state title."
Rupert has taken visits this spring to Florida State and Arkansas State. Rupert ran four track events after football season which included the 200, 400, 4X1, and 4X4. He reports a 3.6 GPA. Rupert wears No. 3 for the Wolverines.
