Week one in the books for Vanderbilt

Week one of Vanderbilt's preseason practice has come and gone. Here's a look at some of the highlights of the first week of Commodore preseason camp.

2-Aug: Helmets and shorts. First day of preseason practice. DL Thad McHaney out for good because of numbness and tingling. Fitz Lassing not practicing for first week or two. Wesley Tate moved back wideout. Zac Stacy now benches over 400 pounds and weighs 215 pounds. He rushed for 1,193 yards last season and is looking to improve more this season.

3-Aug: Helmets and shorts. Coach Franklin pleased with improved effort in second practice. "They came out today with energy, especially our defense, and that energy (positively) affected the whole practice," Franklin said.

4-Aug: Helmets and shorts. First of 2-a-days. Franklin pleased with both sessions. Says the defense is ahead of the offense but not by as much as usual. Speaks highly of DEs Jimmy Stewart and Azubike. Jerron Seymour looking really sharp.

5-Aug: Team gets a break and takes part in the annual Dore Jam event at Vanderbilt Stadium where thousands of Vanderbilt fans swarm over the players in search of autographs and chit-chat.

6-Aug: Helmets and shorts. Zac Stacy, Warren Norman and Brian Kimbrow getting significant reps at running back. Jordan Matthews, Josh Grady and tight end Steven Scheu all make big catches.

7-Aug: Full pads. Defense didn't play well in goal line situations. Franklin says offense "dominating" in goal line but doesn't think it is really competitive. Chris Boyd dehydrated.

8-Aug: Full pads. First unit offense looks sharp and churns out the yardage while the second unit struggles somewhat. Jordan Matthews and Kris Kentera continue to make big catches. Caleb Azubike looking strong on defense. It appears that he may indeed fill the void left by the graduation of Tim Fugger.
