Time to get back on the winning path this weekend as the Auburn Tigers visit Nashville. For the Commodores to reach bowl eligibility this is a game they have to win. Here are the three keys which will set the 'Dores on their way.
1) Stoke the fire
The Auburn game will represent the first time in 16 years that Vanderbilt Stadium has been sold out for back to back home games. It says everything about the coaching and marketing job that James Franklin has done that the drawing power of the Commodores is this high right now. The black and gold fans are hungry for a home SEC win and Franklin has challenged them this week saying, "Just like they want more from me and our team, I want more from them."
Challenge number one for the team this week will be keep the crowd hot and into the game by jumping on the Tigers early and giving the fans something to shout about.
2) Make the game about the fourth quarter
Ideally by the fourth quarter of the game Vandy will be 20 points ahead and cruising to a big conference win. If, however, the Commodores are in a tight contest in the fourth the performances of the Tigers this season bode well for a home win. Auburn has been outscored 62-3 in the final period in 2012 and the team has shown no sign of reversing this trend in recent games. Against Ole Miss last week Auburn was down just 24-20 heading into the fourth, before the Rebels scored 17 unanswered points in a crushing 41-20 win.
The Tigers clearly wear down late in games and with Vanderbilt set to unleash Zac Stacy on them this weekend there are sure to be missed tackles and blown coverages if the game is close at the end.
3) Run Zac Stacy hard
Stacy is averaging 5 yards a carry on the season and last week he played well against Florida. His one-score, 86 yard performance (with a huge run called back) came against one of the elite rushing defenses in the entire country. Auburn is many rungs below that level defensively and Stacy could be primed for a break out performance if he is fed the ball 25+ times against them.
