Recruited by the previous Bobby Johnson staff, Stacy came to Vandy as a freshman in 2009 in the same freshman class as fellow tailback Warren Norman. Stacy actually won the preseason battle for the starting position but because of an injury Norman started the season opener and went on to be the SEC Freshman of the Year. Stacy battled his way back to the starting position and his hard running has helped make him the program's all-time career leading rusher.

November 12, 2011 versus Kentucky. Stacy brutalizes the Wildcats for 135 yards rushing on 28 carries. Late in the game, with Vandy leading 31-8, Stacy runs 18 yards and carries numerous Wildcats into the end zone with him. It was the third of three Stacy touchdowns on the day.

"It was basically a lot of adrenaline, a lot of movement of the feet. It was just a great effort, not only by me, but by a couple of guys that pushed me in... It was just a good play. We were able to punch it in and pretty much put the game away." Zac Stacy, November 12, 2011 after Vandy's 38-8 win over Kentucky.
