"It was a great signing day," said Burse. "We had a typical ceremony with the tables and the hats. A nice crowd came out to support us. I had my family there. It's nice to be done with that chapter of my life. I feel the same way about Vanderbilt as I did after I took my official visit in January and when I committed back in the summer. I'm proud to be a part of this class. I think it's a special class that's going to do great things while we're there. I'm happy to be a fly boy, which is what they call the wide receivers. Finally, signing my letter of intent was a big weight off my shoulders."
At Alpharetta High School in the Atlanta area, Burse was a three-year starter for the Raiders and served as a senior captain. He posted 855 receiving yards on 49 receptions with eight touchdowns as a senior and was named first team All-Region (Georgia Class AAAAAA Region 6). Now he's hoping to make an big impact as freshman part of a dangerous Commodore receiving corps.
"Honestly, I'm there to learn," he said. "Guys like Jordan Matthews, Jonathan Krause, and Chris Boyd are outstanding and great to learn from. I also have started a good relationship with the quarterback. My hope is to get some early playing time. I'm willing to do whatever the coaches have in mind. I'm there to build the team up and help take us to the next level."
The 6-foot-3, 200-pound running wide receiver played in the Offense/Defensive All-American Bowl after the season. He had numerous Division 1 offers including Florida, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Tennessee. He was also a standout basketball player in high school. Burse plans on being on campus by June 7th.
