Parsons on Vandy: "I can't wait to get there"

Tight End Mitchell Parsons of Chaparral High School (Parker, Colo.) signed with the Vanderbilt Commodores on Wednesday. Look inside for a photo and quotes from Parsons.

"It's awesome to officially be a Commodore," said Parsons. "I can't wait to get there and get started. I'm working out now to prepare myself for the grind. Being the SEC champs is what we're trying to do next year and the year after. It's what we expect to do and what our goal is going to be. We won't be satisfied until we make it happen."

"I spoke with the coaches a lot the night before and then when I sent in the fax. I was on the phone with Coach Bankins, Coach Rahne, and Coach Franklin. Obviously it was a big day for them. We didn't talk very long because it was right before Jordan Cunningham was about to announce. They said offered me congratulations and said they can't wait to have me up there."

Parsons had a signing day ceremony at his high school's theater with 15 other student-athletes signing their letters of intent. He was with longtime friends, family, students, and his junior varsity basketball coach and his father's best friend. Both men, he said, have been very influential in his life.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end was a two-year starter at Chaparral. He was named All-State and All-League as a senior. Mile High Sports named him their Receiver of the Year. Parsons also played in the 2012 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl in Houston.
