Photo Story: Ziomek leads Vandy past Oregon

Vanderbilt and Kevin Ziomek got off to a super start on Friday night in the first matchup of the three game series. Ziomek struck out 13 batters while Tony Kemp's second inning triple ignited a three run Commodore inning. Second ranked Vanderbilt held on to win 4-1.

Kevin Ziomek winds up to throw. Ziomek got off to a somewhat rough early start, giving up a hit and walking a batter in the first. However, the veteran hurler struck out the final Duck batter of the inning to get things going. He would go on to have a fine day.

Tony Kemp's image flashed on the Oregon Jumbotron in the second inning. Kemp sparked a 3-run second inning for the Commodores when he blasted a triple that scored three runs.

Freshman pinch hitter Rhett Wiseman gets ready to take a swing at the ball. Wiseman, who had a hit and scored a run during the big Commodore second inning, is one of several freshman that see significant playing time.

View from the inside of Oregon's PK Park. The top notch facility was dedicated in 2009 when Oregon re-launched their baseball program. PK Park seats about 4,000 and has the feel of a big league park.

Third baseman Xavier Turner is another key Commodore freshman. He reached on a fielder's choice in the second inning and scored one of the two runs off Kemp's triple. (Rhett Wiseman scored the other).

Kevin Ziomek pitches throws another pitch. Ziomek finished with a stellar 13 strike outs, walked one and gave up just one earned run (a solo homerun).

The two teams will be back in action on Saturday at 4 pm CT.
