Vandy women headed to Storrs

The Vanderbilt women earned a No. 8 seed in the NCAA tournament today. The Commodores will face No. 9 seeded St. Josephs in the first round at Storrs, Conn.

If Vandy can win its first round game it will face the winner of the UConn-Idaho matchup.

The 23-8 St. Joseph's Hawks play in the Atlantic 10 Conference. St. Joseph's, which is rated No. 30 in the rankings, had notable wins over Maryland and also beat 27-2 Dayton in semifinals of the A-10 Conference Tournament. The Hawks went on to win tourney by knocking off Fordham 47-46 in the final.

This will be Vanderbilt's 26th appearance in the NCAA. The Commodore women have an overall record of 38-25 in the event.

Storrs is part of the Bridgeport Region of the tournament.

From the SEC, (seeds in parenthesis)Tennessee (2), Kentucky (2), Texas A&M (3), Georgia (4), South Carolina (4) and LSU (6) also made the tournament field. Kentucky is also in the Bridgeport Region with Vandy.
