"Vanderbilt offered me the same time Tennessee did," said Hilliman. "I want to say it was late January. Coach Donovan told me he thought I was one of the top players in the class of 2013. That meant a lot to me. He said I have a great combination of size and speed, the ability to break tackles, catch the ball out of the backfield, and do some good down-field blocking.
"I put them in my top ten because it's a program on the rise with excellent academics. They meet a lot of the criteria of what I'm looking for in a program. Also, the interest they showed me caught my attention. They really think a lot of me as a player and a person. I haven't been to campus yet, but I'm probably going to visit in May or during the summer."
Hilliman also had Alabama, Arkansas, Boston College, Georgia, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon, Rutgers, and Stanford. Although he's narrowed his list to ten, Hilliman said he'll take his time in shortening any further.
"I'm not going to make my final decision until signing day," he said. "I want to take all five of my official visits. So far, I've been to Boston College, Maryland, Rutgers, and Penn State. I want to get out to a lot more colleges over the summer. I like schools with a lot of tradition with great coaches and that offer a good campus life. I'd say that's my criteria for choosing the right school for me."
As a junior, Hilliman emerged as the feature back in the Marauders offense and made the most of his opportunity rushing for more than 1000 yards with a host of accolades.
"I rushed for 1471 yards and 21 touchdowns," Hilliman said. "I made first team All-State and All-Conference. We made it to the semifinals. Next season I think we're going to have a great team. I should get more carries and hope to rush for somewhere between 1800 and 2000 yards."
For a big back, Hilliman possess highly coveted breakaway speed. He runs the 100 meter dash with a best time of 10.8. He also runs the 200 and competes in the long jump. Hilliman reports a best time in the forty yard dash of 4.45.
