Wide Receiver Rashad Canty of Riverdale High School (Riverdale, Ga.) signed with Vanderbilt on Wednesday. Look inside for a photo and quotes from Canty.
"I woke up today ready to become a Commodore," said Canty. "It's a great accomplishment. I'm completely sold on the program no matter who comes in. You want to have guys who want to be there. People think this class is a little shaky with Coach Franklin leaving, but I think this is the group that will get us over the hump. Look at Auburn
, they went from 0-8 in the SEC to winning it. I think we can achieve that at Vanderbilt
and I can come away with a great degree.
"Coach Franklin and his staff loved my film. They loved me and my personality but never got around to offering me. Three days after Coach Mason was hired he offered me, so I think that speaks a lot about the way he feels about me. I think he's the better fit for me. I got his back 100-percent."
A four-year starter at Riverdale, Canty, 6-foot-4, 207-pounds, was recruited by Charles Bankins to Vanderbilt to play outside wide receiver. As a senior, Canty was named first team All-State in Georgia Class AAAA.
