Vanderbilt baseball back on track

The No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores had an excellent week, beating Memphis and sweeping Georgia to get back in the hunt for an SEC East Title. Perhaps the best news of the weekend was Tyler Beede's seven strikeout performance in five innings on Friday night.


Tuesday: W, 2-1 vs. Memphis (Jackson, Tenn.)
Friday: W, 12-9 vs. Georgia
Saturday: W, 11-0 vs. Georgia
Sunday: W, 6-1 vs. Georgia


The No. 25 Vanderbilt Commodores put together one of their best weeks in well over a month by defeating Memphis and then sweeping Georgia. The Commodores (33-12,11-10 SEC) have now positioned themselves nicely for a possible late season run that could eventually land them a solid seed in the SEC Tournament and later the NCAA tourney. Vanderbilt's team batting average is .280 (opponents .196) with a 2.45 ERA (opponents 4.61 versus Vandy)

Tyler Beede: (6-5, 3.46 ERA) Beede looked like his old self striking out seven and allowing just two hits in five innings of work to earn the win. Beede's performance was cut short by a power outage but his stellar pitching bodes well for the rest of the season. Beede now has 69 strikeouts on the season which is a team best of the weekend starters.
Carson Fulmer: (2-1, 1.35 ERA) On Saturday struck out eight batters while allowing just two hits, three walks and no earned runs in seven innings of work to earn a win. As a starter he has not allowed a run in 13 innings while recording 14 strikeouts.
Jared Miller: (6-1, 3.71 ERA) Struggled in the Friday continuation game, on Saturday. Allowed eight hits and nine earned runs in 3 2/3 innngs of work. Walked three.
Tyler Ferguson: (6-3, 2.90 ERA) Struck out five and allowed no earned runs in five innings of acton on Sunday
Walker Buehler: (8-1, 1.56 ERA) Continues to impress. Struck out 10 batters and allowed 1 earned runs on six hits in the Tuesday win over Memphis. Leads Vandy in strikeouts with 74.
Brian Miller: (1-0, 0.76 ERA) Earned a save during the Friday's continuation game allowing no hits or walks in two batters faced. Opponents are batting .118 versus Miller.
Hayden Stone: (1-0, 0.56 ERA) Struck out two batters in one inning of relief work on Saturday. Allowed one hit.
Adam Ravenelle: (2-0, 1.11 ERA) Struck out five in three innings of relief work on Sunday. Has allowed three runs in 24 1/3 innings pitched.
Ben Bowden: (0-0, 3.12 ERA) Struck out one batter on one inning of work on Saturday.
Dansby Swanson: (.355, 21 RBI) Had two hits including a double and RBI in the Friday victory. On Saturday had two hits, three RBIs and a stolen base. Had a pair of hits including a double on Sunday. Swanson leads the 'Dores in hits with 61.
Bryan Reynolds: (.327, 33 RBI) Had a trio of hits (2 doubles), a walk and four RBIs in the Friday win. Had a pair of hits in the Saturday win. Reynolds is tops for Vandy in RBIs with 33 and doubles (19).
Vince Conde: (.313, 31 RBI) Had a pair of hits and two RBIs on Friday. Also hit twice on Sunday. Conde's 27 walks leads all Commodores.
Jason Delay: (.303, 10 RBI) Doubled for an RBI during Friday's win. On Saturday had two hits and two walks.
Rhett Wiseman: (.241, 20 RBI) Had two hits and an RBI in Friday's win.
John Norwood: (.254, 17 RBI) Had three hits and two RBIs on Saturday.
Xavier Turner: (.310, 26 RBI) Had a pair of hits (one double), an RBI and scored one of Vandy's two runs against Memphis. Didn't hit on Friday but walked twice earning an RBI and scoring two runs. On Saturday, had a 3-run homer.
Zander Wiel: (.265, 22 RBI) On Sunday drove in three runs and hit his second home run of the season.
Nolan Rogers: (.229, 13 RBI) Had two hits in the win over Memphis.
