Vanderbilt baseball poised for success

Mission accomplished. The No. 18 and rising Vanderbilt Commodores won a pivotal road series over league leading Florida. Now there's another mission: win a series over a solid South Carolina team in Nashville in another Thursday-Saturday TV series. Vandy fans should pack the park to back up the 'Dores as they continue their march to Hoover and possibly Omaha glory.


Tuesday: L, 11-7 vs Louisville
Thursday: L, 1-0 at Florida
Friday: W, 3-0 at Florida
Saturday: W, 16-2 at Florida


No. 18 Vanderbilt, 38-14 (16-11 SEC), started the week slow, losing to Louisville on Tuesday and Florida on Thursday. However, the Commodores came rallied to shutout the Gators on Friday and then pounded the lizards with 16 runs on Saturday to secure a vital SEC road series.

Tyler Beede: (7-6, 3.43) Pitched six solid innings on Thursday allowing just three hits and one earned run. Took the loss due to lack of run support.
Carson Fulmer: (4-1, 0.98) Struck out eight and allowed just four scattered hits in dominating Florida on Friday. Has now pitched an amazing 28 straight scoreless innings.
Tyler Ferguson: (7-3, 2.66) Had three strikeouts in five innings of work to earn a win on Saturday.
Walker Buehler: (8-2, 2.35) On Tuesday vs. Louisville struck out three but allowed six hits and seven runs in 2 2/3 innings to earn a loss.
Adam Ravenelle: (3-0, 0.91) Pitched 1 2/3 innings against the Cardinals allowing a pair of hits and an earned run. On Thursday allowed no hits or runs but walked four while striking out two.
John Kilichowski: (0-0, 1.47) Pitched 3 1/3 innings of relief vs. Louisville striking out three and allowing no hits and one earned run. Also had a strikeout on Saturday.
Rhett Wiseman: (.248, 21 RBI) Hit twice on Friday.
Dansby Swanson: (.342, 27 RBI) Had two hits against Louisville. Finished the week with four hits, four RBIs and two stolen bases.
Vince Conde: (.312, 39 RBI) Homered and singled against Louisville for four RBIs. Had two hits and an RBI on Friday. Belted a 3-run homer in the first inning on Saturday to help Vandy take into control of that game. Finished the week with six hits in 17 at bats for two home runs and eight RBIs.
John Norwood: (.276, 17 RBI) Singled and stole a base on Thursday against Florida.
Xavier Turner: (.297, 30 RBI) Singled for two RBIs and had two walks on Saturday.
Bryan Reynolds: (.317, 39 RBI) Had one of Vandy's two hits on Thursday.
Zander Wiel: (.265, 28 RBI) Had two hits including a home run and singled against UofL. On Friday piled up four hits in five at bats and scored a run. First inning 2-RBI single put Vandy up 2-0 early on Saturday.
Chris Harvey: (.306, 6 RBI) Picked up three hits against the Cardinals on Tuesday.
