Florida 34, Vandy 10: The Good, bad and Ugly

Vanderbilt fell to Florida 34-10 on Saturday night. Look inside for the Good, Bad and Ugly from the game.

THE GOOD

Defensive stand in first half. Vanderbilt ended the Gator's red zone run success run early in the second quarter. The Gators had driven to the Vandy one where they faced a fourth-and-goal. Florida went for it and the Commodore defense stuffed Matt Jones was slammed for no gain by Zach Cunningham. Vanderbilt ball. It was the first time all season that Florida had ventured into the red zone and came away empty handed.

Openshaw boots 48-yarder. In the fourth quarter Tommy Openshaw nailed a 48-yard field goal that narrowed the Gator lead to 24-10. Some might question kicking a field goal but it was a good call by the coaches. The kick cut Florida's lead to two scores and there was still plenty of time on the clock for Vanderbilt to score twice more - if they could get their offense going.

THE BAD AND UGLY

Passing attack fizzles. Early on Johnny McCrary completed a 33-yard touchdown pass to Steven Scheu but after that the passing attack struggled. McCrary finished with 14-of-35 completions for 160 yards, the TD and two interceptions. About halfway through the second quarter McCrary's passes began to fall more and more off target eventually the interceptions came. Patton Robinette saw his first action in several weeks in the final minutes of the game. He completed 7-of-10 passes for 65 yards but he couldn't get the 'Dores in the end zone on that final drive. Davis Dudchock and Scheu each had five catches. Latevius Rayford made seven receptions to lead the team.

Commodores' bowl streak ends. Vanderbilt is now 3-7 with the loss to Florida. This means the 'Dores 3-season bowl streak is over. The Commodores played in the Liberty, Music City and BBVA Compass Bowl in back to back seasons from 2011 to 2013. Vandy won two of those three bowls. Many close observers didn't believe it was possible for that to happen but the players proved them wrong and had a lot of fun in the process.
