Chase Hayden Profile
Don Yates: What makes you a great player?
Chase Hayden: My vision, my acceleration. I just feel like I'm a playmaker, really.
DY: You're a cornerback, correct.
CH: Yes sir. Well, running back and cornerback.
DY: What were your stats last year (as a sophomore).
CH: I had two interceptions and 45 tackles. I have 1,751 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns and 1,951 all purpose.
DY: 1,951 all purpose yards?
CH: Yes sir.
DY: Holy moly. That's pretty darn good. What was that receiving and kickoff returns?
CH: Yes sir, receiving and kickoff returns.
DY: What is your forty speed.
CH: I ran a 4.56.
DY: That's great. You're still a young man. You are going to get faster and faster, I bet. What schools are recruiting you the hardest.
CH: Probably Vanderbilt, Ole Miss and Tennessee.
DY: How often are you hearing from Vanderbilt?
CH: I had a couple of recent visits. I went up there for Junior Day this past weekend and they offered me.
DY: What are some of the things the Vanderbilt coaches said they liked about you?
CH: They like my playmaking ability and like my vision at running back.
DY: What coaches were you talking to?
CH: I talked to coach Mason a lot yesterday [Saturday] then I got to talk to my area recruiting coach, Brett Maxie.
DY: Your father went to Tennessee, correct?
CH: Yes sir.
DY: We know they (Vandy and Tennessee) are big rivals. How would that play into your possibility of playing for Vanderbilt?
CH: Well, my dad is originally from Detroit, but he said I'm just going to have to make my own decision; it's up to me. Wherever I feel is the best place for me he's going
to support me and that's where he wants me to go.
DY: Sounds like a good dad. What are some of the things you like about Ole Miss?
CH: I really enjoyed it when I got to talk to the players. [Something positive about Coach Freeze but phone technical problems]
DY: What about Ole Miss? Is that somewhere you could see yourself playing?
CH: Yeah, I could see myself playing there. Especially since it's close to home. I really like the running backs coach there.
DY: What positions are teams recruiting you for?
CH: Tennessee and Ole Miss are recruiting me as a running back and Vanderbilt told me that really don't know what position they want me to play yet.
DY: Who do you think is maybe close to offering you?
CH: Ole Miss
DY: What camps do you plan to attend in the near future?
CH: Florida State and Alabama.
DY: What other sports do you play in addition to football.
DY: Is that something where you are getting interest from colleges too?
CH: Yes, MTSU, Murray State and Vanderbilt are interested.
DY: Would you be interested in playing football and basketball at Vanderbilt.
CH: I could see myself doing that.
DY:How are you doing in the classroom?
CH: I have a 3.1 GPA.
DY:Chase, thanks so much for your time. I think you have a great future ahead of you.
CH: Thank you sir.
