Birchmeier picks Vanderbilt

Commodore fans had to wait a day to hear the good news but on Monday afternoon, Crosby (Va) defensive tackle Drew Birchmeier officially announced his commitment to Vanderbilt University and he couldn’t be happier about playing college football in the Southeastern Conference.

“I am so excited about choosing Vanderbilt and deciding to play football in Nashville,” he said. “I knew after I camped with them last Friday that they were the school for me. They have everything I want in a college and I can’t wait to officially become a Commodore.”

Birchmeier became the eighth player to commit to Vanderbilt for the 2016 class on Monday. He is the second defensive tackle prospect to choose Vanderbilt and could become one of the biggest steals of the Dores 2016 class.

The Virginia tackle attended “The Opening” regionals this summer where he left the camp with the top lineman award and began opening the eyes of college coaches around the country. Standing 6-foot-4 275 pounds, Birchmeier is an athletic force with size and the frame to get bigger in a college weight system.

Last Friday, the 3star lineman proved to the Vandy coaches his abilities along the line and showed them his capabilities of performing inside the toughest football conference in America.

“I really thought I performed well at the Vandy camp and I think I proved what I am capable of doing on the football field,” said Birchmeier. “It was honestly the best camp I attended all summer. I love the coaching staff and I like how personable they are. They made me feel at home and the fact made it more comfortable for me to commit to them.”

The coaching staff was a major plus for Birchmeier in choosing Vanderbilt but it wasn’t the only factor.

“I honestly love everything about Vanderbilt and what the experience there offers. The city of Nashville is awesome. The campus is absolutely beautiful and the facilities is high class all the way. There is honestly not one thing I didn’t like about Vanderbilt. I am so excited about my future with them and I cannot wait to get started.”

Look for the Virginia lineman to have a big senior season with the possibility of adding more offers. Even if other schools come calling, Birchmeier is 100 percent solid with his decision and is ready to perform at Vanderbilt.

“I am so comfortable with my decision to become a Commodore and I don’t care what happens the rest of the way in my recruitment, I am 100 percent with Vanderbilt and I don’t think I could of made a better decision,” he said.

Besides his offer from Vanderbilt, Birchmeier also held offers from Bucknell, Charlotte, Cornell, East Carolina, Harvard, Liberty, Marshall, Old Dominion, Temple and Yale. Top Stories
