Football season is almost here and besides getting prepared for the season, Vanderbilt is still active in recruiting. This past week they extended some new offers to 2017 prospects. The Dores could also be close to adding some new players to their 2016 class. Here is the latest with Vanderbilt and the Commodore staff's recruiting efforts.

-- Just yesterday Vanderbilt extended an offer to Brentwood Academy (TN) nose guard Brandon Adams and the Dores could be the team to beat for his signature. Adams is a load on the inside with his strength, overall power and intelligence. Only standing 6’0, Adams has seen his recruitment run slow because of his height but he more than makes up for it in other places. Vanderbilt has been recruiting Adams for a while now and got a great glimpse at his abilities when he camped with the Dores at their Friday Night Lights event. His performance at camp convinced the staff that Adams is not only good enough but someone they want in their program. Adams doesn’t have a certain time frame for a decision but as things sit now, Vanderbilt is the leader for his services and in time, the Brentwood native could soon become a Commodore. [NOTE: Adams committed to Vandy on Monday morning shortly after this article was published.]

-- After losing out to Boise State for Damarea Crockett, Vanderbilt is still active in finding another running back to add to the 2016 class. This past week Vanderbilt extended an offer to AC Reynolds (NC) running back Rico Dowdle. Standing 6’1 190, Dowdle has the size and frame to get better in a college weight system but he also has excellent speed and vision in the open field. Dowdle has the look of an SEC back and it appears Vandy has zeroed in on him. Besides now holding this offer from Vandy, Dowdle also holds offers from Appalachian State, Boston College, Charlotte and Wake Forest. Dowdle’s appears to be rising as other schools like NC State, Notre Dame and Tennessee are showing interest. Look for Dowdle to visit Nashville sometime soon and if the visit goes well, Vandy could be a strong contender at landing the Carolina running back.

-- Another running back on the radar that has yet to receive an offer from Vandy is Keller (TX) back Tyler Tutt. So far there hasn’t been too much action between the Vandy coaches and Tutt but he is on their radar. Tutt holds offers from the likes of Boise State, Iowa, Louisiana Tech and others. Tutt is a physical tough runner at 5’10 205 pounds with good change of direction abilities. Tutt is in no rush to make a commitment. He is holding out hope to land a Vandy offer because the Commodores program is one he is highly interested in.

-- If you're looking for players besides Brandon Adams who could be on commitment watch it would be Magna Vista (VA) safety Traveon Redd (photo at right) and Central Catholic (IN) two way lineman Coy Cronk. Redd has already set a date and time for his commitment. On July 31st, Redd will make his college commitment and as of right now, it appears that Vanderbilt is the team in the lead. Redd really likes Vanderbilt for everything its offers. He is a high academic kid who plays with a certain swagger and fierce demeanor on the football field. Even before he commits on the 31st, Redd will make one more visit to campus and he could be in town as early as this week.

Cronk jumped on the Dores radar over a month ago and has quickly vaulted himself to the top of the Dores wish list. Cronk has stated to me in the past that he wants to make his decision before the start of his senior season. He has yet to visit campus but is expected to make his way down south within the next two weeks. He very well could be in town this week and if he does show up, he could be headed home as a committed player to Vanderbilt.

This & That

-- Granite Hills (Ca) DE Jake Burton hasn’t publicly announced his final three but it looks like Arizona, UCLA and Vanderbilt are his finalists. He plans to commit sometime soon and while Vandy has a strong shot to land him, the Wildcats of Arizona look to be his leader.

-- Vanderbilt is real active in looking for another offensive tackle and a guy they are looking into is John Marshall (OK) lineman Tramonda Moore. This 6’6 330 pound tackle is quickly blowing up on the recruiting scene. Just recently, Moore added offers from Alabama, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and others. Vanderbilt is looking at getting in the mix and Moore is a long ways off from making any decisions. If Vandy decides to get into the race, they may stand a decent shot as Moore is looking to play at a high level program as well as earn a great education.

--- 2017 Peachtree Ridge (GA) standouts DeAngelo Gibbs (photo at left) and Connor Heyward (photo at right) unofficially visited Vanderbilt this past and both players very much enjoyed their time in Nashville. Vandy has been recruiting both players for a while now. These players may be tough to pull into the fold as they are both considered major targets for some of the best programs in the country. The simple fact that both guys have visited Nashville a few times now and even made it back this week, shows that Gibbs and Heyward have a real interest in the Commodores. Top Stories
