On Monday, Rutger Reitmaier made his way over to West End for an unofficial visit with Vanderbilt. It was his third visit to campus over the past several months for the Lipscomb lineman and each trip over, he becomes more and more impressed.
“I had an excellent visit this week with Vanderbilt and I can’t wait to get back over there as soon as I can,” he said. “I like Vanderbilt a lot and I like what they represent. It’s also the hometown team and I wouldn’t mind being close to home for college. Overall it was a great visit and I appreciate the staff for wanting me to come over.”
Earlier this summer, Reitmaier earned himself an official offer from Vanderbilt after his stellar performance at camp. A versatile and strong lineman, Reitmaier is a rising recruit that fits what Vanderbilt wants to do on defense and the coaches explained to him on Monday how he fits exactly into their scheme.
“I was able talk extensively with both Coach (Derek) Mason as well as Coach (Frank) Maile on Monday and it was a very informative talk where they showed me their schemes on defense and how I would fit into it,” said Reitmaier. “They told me they love my strength, my versatility and definitely my hands. They said I have very active hands and that’s one thing they really look for in their defensive lineman. I like how I fit into their defense, so I am excited to see them on the field this season.”
Vanderbilt already has Reitmaier at the top of their target board but what does the local lineman think about Commodores?
“I am very interested in Vanderbilt. I would say right now they are one of my top schools,” he said.
The Commodores will have some competition for Reitmaier and the competition will come from all sorts of schools from all over the country.
Right now, Reitmaier holds offers from Vanderbilt, Purdue and Duke. He is also receiving interest from several others schools, including heavy interest from a few SEC schools.
“I like where my recruitment is right now and I think I could be adding more offers soon. All three schools that have offered me are recruiting me pretty hard but so is Ole Miss and Tennessee as well. I hear from those five schools the most, so I am thinking soon enough both Ole Miss and Tennessee could offer me. I like both those places but I am also keeping an open mind to everybody.”
Look for Reitmaier to make it back to Vanderbilt a few times this fall. He plans to attend a few home games but also hit the road as well to see both the Boilermakers and possibly the Blue Devils.
“I am definitely planning to be at Vandy for some of their games,” he said.” I am really looking forward to seeing them play but I am also excited to see Purdue as well. I have already confirmed with myself that I want to check their campus and game out sometime this fall. I am not sure when yet but I plan to make it happen. I might get out to Duke too but I am not sure right now. I might visit some other places but I haven’t figured anything out quite yet.”
Look for Reitmaier to establish himself as one of the top prospects from the state of Tennessee for the 2017 class after a strong junior season at Lipscomb Academy.
