2018 running back recaps visit to Vanderbilt

Several high school prospects were able to see Vanderbilt pick up its first win of the 2015 season on Saturday. One guy who was highly impressed with not only the win but his overall visit was Milan (TN) 2018 running back Anthony Ballard, Jr.

“It was an amazing experience,” he said. “I am happy they won the game and it was an impressive performance by the team overall. I liked how the coaching staff made me feel like I was at home. Definitely one of the college’s that I would love to attend.”

The West Tennessee runner is a rising 2018 prospect that has the size, skills and potential to turn himself into a highly thought of recruit.

Ballard Jr, already sits at 6’0 190 pounds and has the look of a power five conference running back.

Vanderbilt is one of the first schools to show interest in Ballard, Jr. This weekend was the first chance for him to see and speak with the coaching staff in person and he was very impressed with the style of the Vanderbilt coaches.

“I really liked talking and being around the coaches and I really think they are doing well, they just have to stay at it,” Ballard, Jr. said. “I was happy I got the chance to talk with Coach (Charles) Bankins in person versus the phone. I also got to talk to Mr. Barnes, Mr. Stewart and Coach (Derek) Mason before the start of the game. He gave me some great tips, encouragement and advice going forward. They were some great coaches and I can’t wait to come back for another visit.”

The Commodores coaching staff invited Ballard, Jr back for a visit anytime he wants. He intends to make it back before his high school season ends.

Ballard, Jr also has a few other unofficial visits scheduled over the next several weeks, including trips to a pair of Southeastern Conference programs.

“Right now I have one visit scheduled to Memphis in the month of October. I am also setting up visits to both Mississippi State and Ole Miss as well. I think over the next month I will see all three of those schools. I will also most definitely be back to Vanderbilt before the season is over. I really enjoyed myself at Vandy and I am excited about learning more as I go along.”

Ballard, Jr had a stellar game last Friday night in a win over Westview. He carried the ball 18 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns.
