A former basketball player, Kopp has transitioned his athletic talents to football and has blossomed into a Division 1 football recruit. The 6’6 tackle currently holds six official offers with his latest two coming earlier this week from Rice and Vanderbilt.
Kopp has been a rising prospect on the Commodores radar for a while now. The staff itself became impressed enough to extend the former basketball player an official offer and now the Houston area tackle has Vanderbilt in the lead.
“I am so excited to have an offer from Vanderbilt and I can tell you that they are my number one school right now,” said Kopp.
“I have been talking with the coaches at Vanderbilt for several weeks now and they kept telling me how impressed they were about my potential on the football field and how little experience I have. Vanderbilt is a great school. Their academics are great and they play football in the SEC. You can’t find a much combination than that.”
The little experience that Kopp possesses is exciting to a college coaching staff. He has all the tools you want in a tackle. Long arms, great height, feisty attitude and the willingness to work.
Vanderbilt and others see Kopp as a potential starting college lineman and the Commodore's staff itself is desiring to add another tackle to their 2016 class.
“Vanderbilt told me they want another tackle in their class. They said they really like me as a good piece in this class and think I fit the Vanderbilt brand. I really respect their opinion and I like how much they want me. It feels good to be wanted.”
The Commodores want Kopp on campus soon and he plans to take them up on their offer.
Kopp is set to visit campus on October 24th when the Commodores face off against SEC East foe Missouri. It will be the first time for Kopp to be on Vanderbilt’s campus and if everything goes right, it certainly won’t be his last.
“In about two weeks for the Missouri game, I am planning to visit and I can’t wait to see what Vanderbilt is all about.” said Kopp. “I have heard and researched some great things on Vanderbilt. I can’t wait to see everything for myself. Right now I haven’t set any plans to make a commitment but if everything goes good with Vandy, you never know, I may decide to make a decision.”
If or when Kopp decides to make a commitment, he will have plenty of options to choose from as he claims multiple schools could be on the verge of offering.
“I have been talking a lot lately with Houston, Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Tulane.” he said. “I really think one of those schools could offer me soon. I feel real honored to be noticed for my talents on the football field, even though I haven’t played the game that long. I am loving football and I can’t wait to take my talents to the next level.”
This tackle from Houston is really a very interesting prospect. At the early stages of his career, Kopp already has the nimble and quick feet along with the athleticism and toughness to succeed at the highest level of college football.
Whoever lands Kopp could be getting a major steal. Looks like Vanderbilt may have the best shot as of now to land the Texas tackle.
