Dayton is no pushover. The 6-1 Flyers have wins over Alabama, Iowa and a dangerous Monmouth team that has several quality wins. Most recently the Flyers defeated North Florida on Saturday 86-71 in a game which 6-foot-5 guard Charles Cooke had 24 points while 6-11, 268 pound center Steve McElvene added 14 points, 16 rebounds and four blocks. Prior to the North Florida win, the Flyers were blown out by Xavier in Florida.
A quick glance at Dayton's statistics reveals that Cooke, guard Schoochie Smith and 6-6 forward Kendall Pollard are the teams top scorers.
Cooke along with Smith and reserve forward Ryan Mikesell are the Daytons's top threats from 3-point range while McElvene is the Flyer's best in field percentage.
On the boards, Cooke, Pollard and McElvene lead the way in rebounds.
Looking the Vandy-Dayton stats comparison, the Commodores clearly have the better shooting percentage while the Flyers lead the way in steals made and have a better RPI.
This is a game Vanderbilt should win but if they are still thinking about the loss at Baylor the Commodores could lose their second straight and miss out on another opportunity for a quality win.
Wednesday's game tips off at 8 pm central time and can be seen on ESPNU.
