The 3-2 Trojans have played a fairly easy pre-conference schedule that includes two lopsided wins over Division II schools. This will be Troy's second trip to Nashville this season. The Trojans fell to Vandy neighborhood rival Belmont about two weeks ago.
Players to watch for Troy include guard Beverly Kelley who averages 21 points a game so far this season. The 5-foot-6 Kelley was the top scorer in Sun Belt Conference play last season. Caitlyn Ramirez, a 6-2 junior forward from Oklahoma is second on the team in scoring.
Troy's top 3-point shooting threats include point guard Amanda Mendoza who has made over half her attempts and Caitlyn Ramirez. Ramirez also leads the team in field goal percentage.
On the boards 6-1 forward Amahni Upshaw leads the way with 30 rebounds. Mendoza is tops in assists with 33 as opposed to just eight turnovers.
Looking at the Vandy-Troy stats comparison, the Trojans have a clear advantage in scoring offense while the Commodores have played better defense. The Trojans also have the edge on the boards but have a weaker RPI than the Dores.
Troy hasn't been really tested yet this season, but that doesn't mean they are a poor team. This is a game that Commodores should win, but they must take the Trojans seriously.
The game will tip off at 7 pm central time and can be seen on ESPN3.
