Auburn got off to a strong start winning 10 of its first 12 games. However, success has been less often since conference play began. Interestingly, Auburn, with a win at Kentucky and wins over Alabama and LSU, has defeated the exact same teams in conference play as the Commodores. The only difference is Vandy has defeated Alabama twice.
Looking at the Tiger's stats, junior guard Brandy Montgomery leads the Tigers in scoring averaging over 15 points per game. In the recent victory over LSU Montgomery was held to just 10 points. Six-foot-3 center Tra'Cee Tanner and 6-foot-1 forward Katie Frerking are the Tigers other double digit scorers.
Looking at Auburn's top shooters, Montgomery and Frerking lead the Tigers in three point shooting accuracy. Tanner is Auburn's best shooter from the field.
Tanner leads the team in rebounding and blocks. Frerking is second in rebounds and leads the squad in both assists and steals.
Looking at the Vandy-Auburn stats comparison, the two teams are about the same in points scored. Vandy has the edge in points allowed, all shooting categories, assists and has the stronger RPI. Auburn has more rebounds, steals and blocks.
This game will be a tight contest. The Commodores have to give their best effort, as they did in road wins at Alabama and Kentucky. Auburn will press Vandy hard and try to make the Commodores uncomfortable in Auburn Arena. The Dores need to keep their poise as they have in other road games.
Thursday's game tips off at 6 pm central time and can be seen on the SEC Network Plus. Listen online at VUCommodores.com or on your radio at AM 560 WNSR.
