California LB Sampson Niu: "Vanderbilt is a special place"

Madison (CA) inside linebacker Sampson Niu made the long distance travel from Southern California to Nashville on Monday night and the possibility is there that he found his future college home.

Niu, who has held a Commodores offer since last year, unofficially visited Vanderbilt’s campus on Tuesday and came away more than impressed.

“I have had an outstanding time here at Vanderbilt and I don’t think there are many places around the country that can stand up to this place,” said Niu.

The San Diego area linebacker made his way to Nashville with his father and the duo is headed back out west on Wednesday. They were able to take in a full day’s worth of activities on the Commodores campus as well as having the chance to speak with the Vandy coaching staff.

So many things stood out for Niu about his Vanderbilt visit but the main attractions for him were not only the academic standards held on campus but also the relationship he is building with Commodores linebackers coach Chris Marve.

“Vanderbilt is a special place. The campus itself, the facilities and of course the academics are high quality and it’s a place I could really see myself at. The combination of academics and the opportunity to play football in the SEC is a combo you just can’t beat. I really think Coach (Derek) Mason is building something special at Vanderbilt and I believe his coaching staff is very underrated and a group of guys I feel very comfortable around,” Nui said.
