Jordan Sheffield’s impressive outing against Georgia last Friday night earned the redshirt sophomore his latest accolade. The right-hander extended his scoreless inning streak to 24 innings with seven zeroes against the Bulldogs to pick up his third straight win and team-best seventh of the year. The Tullahoma, Tenn. native fanned six and walked one while scattering seven hits, all singles. The Bulldogs put only three runners in scoring position against Sheffield. He pitched out of a jam in the second to strand two Dawgs in scoring position and left another at second in the sixth.
Sheffield picked up his first weekly honors after his 12-strikeout performance against Xavier, in which he allowed only one hit over 7.2 innings carrying a no hitter into the eighth. His best outing of the year came against Kentucky on April 15 when he punched out a career-best 14 in his first career shutout. For that outing, Sheffield earned both national and SEC honors.
The Commodores host Western Kentucky tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. at Hawkins Field.
