NCAA Baseball: Nashville Regional Rundown

The Vanderbilt Commodores will host a NCAA Regional for the fourth straight time and sixth time since 2007. Hawkins Field will host UC-Santa Barbara, Washington and Xavier in addition to the Dores. Here is a rundown on the visiting Nashville Regional teams.

Vanderbilt lost on Friday to Texas A&M to end its conference season.  Now on to bigger fish as the Commodores aim for a third straight College World Series berth. But first, the 'Dores must dispatch of three solid teams who are now making plans to spend the weekend in Music City.

UC-Santa Barbara, the No. 2 seed in the region, finished third in the Big West with a 13-11 conference record.  Nothing jumps out at you looking at these basic stats but this isn't a team Vandy wants to overlook.  Santa Barbara won a series with Southern Cal and also pulled out wins over College of Charleston, Kentucky and Oregon.

The No. 3 seed University of Washington finished second place in the Pac 12 with a 17-13 league record.  The Huskies, who had series wins over Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA, USC and others, boast the region's best batting average.

Xavier, the region's No. 4 seed, is a team that should be familiar with Hawkins Field.  Vandy swept a 3-game series from the Musketeers back in February.  Xavier won the Big East Conference regular season championship and also took the league's tournament title. Xavier is the top home run hitting team of the region with 54.

Here's the schedule for Friday.  UC-Santa Barbara and Washington will square off at 2 pm while Vandy and Xavier will rumble at 7 pm. TV and radio details have not been released.
