Vanderbilt gains 2016 LB/FB Bailey McElwain

Vanderbilt added commit No. 21 to its 2016 football recruiting class on Monday when Trussville, Ala., LB/FB Bailey McElwain committed and signed with the Commodores.

Bailey McElwain has committed to Vanderbilt according to a report on, McElwain was committed to Stanford as a greyshirt (delayed enrollment).  McElwain, however, visited and was offered by Vanderbilt back in February.

McElwain, a 3-star prospect, is rated as the nation's No. 65 inside linebacker prospect for 2016.  Some services rate him as high as No. 3 as a fullback.

Back in February McElain discussed his visit to Vanderbilt with's John Garcia Jr.

"It was nice," he said. "The coaches said they want me to start as a freshman. They thought I was physically ready."

"It was nice all around," he said. "They had a nice indoor facility and I like the scheme they have planned. I really liked the facilities. It would be cool to play in the SEC and to compete every week against local schools."

McElwain looks like a solid pickup for the Commodores, regardless of the position he plays.   However, if he indeed was told he would start as a freshmen, look for his position to be fullback.

With the addition of McElwain, Vanderbilt's 2016 recruiting class has grown to 21.
