OBSERVATIONS

South Carolina, Florida, Missouri and Ole Miss will all have six or more new starters for their offenses. Ole Miss has just three returning starters on offense back but one of them is probably the top returning QB in the SEC, Chad Kelly. On the defensive side, non-conference opponents  MTSU, Western Kentucky and Georgia Tech took heavy losses along with Ole Miss.   Ole Miss, in particular, had the heaviest losses of starters of all Vandy's 2016 opponents with just eight total starters back.  Western Kentucky, Florida and Kentucky will all have new starting quarterbacks while South Carolina, Georgia and Missouri will have new head coaches.

Things may be looking good for the Commodores (or some of the opponents) but keep in mind that back in 2009 Vanderbilt was coming off its first bowl win since 1982 and had nine starters back on both sides of the ball.  Vandy finished the 2009 season with a 2-10 record.
