The Commodores came out of the gates slowly as Guadalajara actually led 21-15 at the end of the first quarter. Vanderbilt then bounced back in the second quarter, outscoring Guadalajara 33-15, to claim the 48-36 halftime advantage.
Vanderbilt continued its solid play in the third period as the Commodores scored 29 points to Guadalajara's 19 points. The Dores then finished the game by outscoring Guadalajara 23-19 in the final stanza to take the 100-74 victory.
Junior Corey Smith added 13 points and junior center David Przybyszewski notched 11 points to round out the double-digit scorers for the Commodores. Przybyszewski also was the team's top rebounder as he pulled down 12 boards for his double-double.
Vanderbilt was set to take in a bullfight Sunday after the Commodores won their first game. After a plane flight to Tenerife (Canary Islands), the Dores are scheduled to play Game 2 Monday against Tacoronte.
